The three primary schools in the Akeman Benefice, at Bletchingdon, Chesterton, and Kirtlington, are all church schools and we have strong and valued links with them.
Every week of term each school has a short session of collective worship for the whole school, which is led by a member of the benefice Ministry Team, and each school has regular services in the local church, especially at the major festivals and at the end of the school year. The Rector is an ex-officio governor and a representative of the village church is also a Foundation Governor at each school.
The Akeman Benefice is happy to be a supportive presence for our schools. One example of this is that there is a monthly meeting where we pray for them. This will include using prayers that the children themselves have requested. In each school, an annual Prayer Space has been started – an opportunity for the children to try out creative and different ways of praying, with help from church members.
We also have strong links with Bruern Abbey School, a private school in Chesterton.
