Lent Labour: This year, across our villages, we will be marking Lent with a shared project called Lent Labour. We will be offering a series of simple, practical sessions in each village – litter picking, maybe tidying churchyards and gardens, cleaning signs, and other small tasks that help care for the places we love. Each session will last around two hours and will be open to all, with no special skills required.
After each session we will gather in church for a simple lunch of bread, soup and cheese. This shared meal will be an important part of the day – a moment to pause, to give thanks, and to enjoy fellowship together.
For those who are unable to take part in the practical work, there will also be a three-quarter hour Faith Focus in church before lunch. This will explore biblical teaching about the value of work – not only paid work, but all the everyday tasks through which we serve one another and honour God.
The sessions will take place from 1030-1230 with the lunch at 1245 and are as follows:
21 Feb Bletchingdon – Cleaning street signs – Meet on green opposite pub 1030
28 Feb Wendlebury – Tidying elderly gentleman’s garden – Meet outside village hall 1030
07 March Middleton Stoney – Litter picking/cleaning bus shelter – Meet outside village hall 1030
14 March Chesterton – Cleaning street signs – Meet at church gate 1030
21 March Kirtlington – Bulb planting or fence painting – Meet on South Green 1030
